Love For The Mum Entrepreneurs On Mother's Day

Carousell, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing classified apps, recently collaborated with Samaritan Women, an empowerment group for mothers and single mums, to promote and help mothers in need to be financially independent.

“Besides being entrepreneurs, their added responsibility as mothers poses a larger challenge. As a mumpreneur, success means being the best mum for your kids and living your dreams while at it. That’s a tough job, but they embrace it,” said Tang Siew Wai, Country Head, Carousell Malaysia.

“Carousell will be listing items and services sold by the entrepreneurs of Samaritan Women in conjunction with Mother’s Day on 13 May 2018,” he added.

Noelle Nah Lian Chea, 35, Founder of Samaritan Women

“I was a single mother for seven years before I remarried. It was tough as I had to raise two children. It took me a while before I could find my feet again to be independent because I understand that my children are my priority and I will need to raise them well regardless of the condition”, said Noelle Nah Lian Chia, 33, Founder of Samaritan Women.

Being a single mother is a challenging task which is why Ms Nah decided to establish Samaritan Women. They help those in need and to ease their burden by providing consultation services and skills training. Since its establishment three years ago, the community has grown and now reaches out to all the mothers in need, regardless of race and background.

While Ms Nah hopes that no mothers will have to endure through hardship, she urges Malaysian mothers looking to establish themselves in business to approach them should they require their assistance through their new Carousell page.

“We also hope that more individuals and organisations would play a part in improving the conditions of single mothers in Malaysia,” she added.

Noelle is also an emcee that provides services for events.

Yvez Koay Poh Ping, 34, Committee Member of Samaritan Women

“Raising my children alone made me realise that it does take a whole village to raise a child. It is mentally and physically challenging especially for single mothers that have to juggle their career and children. I was lucky to be given an opportunity to start my own printing business with the help of others, but not everyone can be as fortunate as I am.”

“It takes time recalibrate during the process as a single mother, and we hope that our experiences will help other mothers to transit as smoothly as possible. Carousell’s involvement in the community is a role model to all organisations on how they can support single parents in need, and we hope that more people can step forward to show their support.”

Evanne Yong Mei Yin, 43, Committee Member of Samaritan Women

“There are many reasons on how a person would become a single parent. The deceased of a loved one or an incompatible partner could be part of the many reasons. I became a widow and had to raise two children on my own. One of my children is a special child that requires attention at all times and that restricted my ability to earn and support my family. Therefore, I could only limit myself to jobs that do not require ample of time or work that can be completed from home.”

“I knew I had to stay strong for my children. I became an insurance agent, a beauty consultant and a beauty product distributor on Carousell and other social media platforms. Carousell made selling as easy as taking a photo and buying as easy as chatting, all in less than 30 seconds. Becoming a single mother  is a stressful and exhausting journey, but I managed to endure through the process.”

“This is why I have dedicated myself to contribute to the Samaritan Women. Many mothers I knew have pondered the same fate as I do and I would like to tell them that regardless of the situation we face, our children will always be our top priority, and I would like to help them through their journey.”
