What should I say first? Good, morning everyone. Today is an English Day for Mialiana.com. Hopefully you will also try to comment in this entry post and also my shoutbox using English.
So let's us look on the photo, this is a normal scenario when people trying to speak English. Don't worry if you also speak broken English, at least you have tried and later on you will surely manage to adjust back to speak the correct one.
Teacher : Please paying attention to me! How much time I must to tell you all, don't play-play in my class. If you don't want to study, go outside and eat wind!!
Well, this is how it will look like when you directly translate Malay to English language. Let's us correct this..
- paying = pay
- much = many
- play-play = play around
- eat wind = have a fresh air
p/s: Happy English Day!

the use of broken english might negatively affect students' competence to learn standard English.they learn by observing and imitating of what is shown to them. so, if the teacher uses broken english during the process of teaching,it might hinder students ability to speak well as they thought that the broken english is the correct way to be used, either in writing or speaking.well, english teachers should aware of this situation. nice entry by the way :)
ReplyDeleteyes. this is true. English teachers should encounter this problem. Thanks for this lovely comment.

yes.. it's right bella. improve and lerning english is a must.
Deletei agree wt you mr Nick Nashram. excuse me if im wrong, the use of broken english nowadays, especially when daily used in TEXT Msgs are highly supported by Us. Yes.. we let them use broken english and malaylish so openly. did nothing abt it, until it has affected our children, especially during their exam. Even a standard English are hardly spoken correctly among friends. Therefore it is hard for the children to improve their English. Writing or speaking broken English , will definitely be the result of our children - end up "missed" the chance of mastering the language that were globally used by ALL. Oh my English! What a waste~!!
ReplyDeletei also agree with you mylady. The current practices need to be corrected. If they get used to it later, will be much more difficult to be changed.
